Turkey
red fabric and yarn was exported from Britain all over the world, especially
to India and the Far East. Very beautiful fabrics were produced in a wide
range of designs with vivid yellows; greens and blues on a red background.

Turkey
red dyeing was a method of producing a bright red on cotton which was
very fast to light, washing and bleaching. The process was used in this
country from the mid-eighteenth century until the 1930s.

The
Turkey red process originated in the Far East and reached the Middle East
at an early date. It was brought to Europe in the eighteenth century;
factories were established around Rouen in France and Switzerland.
