Flat screen printing |

Initially
the process was a manual one with two printers passing a rubber-edged
squeegee across the screen to force the paste onto fabric. The screen
then had to be lifted and moved to print the next section of the pattern.
In the 1950s semi-automatic and fully automatic flat screen printing methods
were developed. These cut production costs significantly.
