Hue is the attribute of colour where we distinguish red from green, blue from yellow and so on. Hues can naturally be arranged in a circle starting with red and passing through yellow green and blue. Munsell divided the hue circle into 100 steps of equal visual change in hue with zero point starting with red.

Value indicates the lightness of the colour in equal visual steps where zero denotes a black and 10 a pure white.

Colour order systems provide a meaningful way for us to communicate colour.

The most famous of such a system is the Munsell system created in 1905 by a commercial artist Albert Munsell. He established a method to show that colour could be ordered by three attributes, Hue, Value (Lightness) and Chroma.
