Although Morris's activities were wide-ranging and diverse, he attempted to achieve perfection in everything he produced, governed by a deeply held belief that a beautiful and well designed environment was fundamental to the improvement and fulfilment of society. |

William
Morris, one of the most prolific and influential British designers, produced
decorative arts - tapestries, printed fabrics, stained glass, wallpapers
and embroidery. He was also an accomplished poet, novelist and calligrapher.
Added to this, Morris was a radical political figure and an early conservationist,
instrumental in the formation of the Socialist League and the Society
for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
