Colour and the motor car |
Whereas fashion designers have the luxury of lead times of less than one
year, automotive designers work up to four years ahead, which means of
course that a new designer's work will take around four years to emerge
in the market and his designs will continue for four years after he has
left a company.
Response to colour is greatly influenced by climate, and Europe can be divided into two main portions in this respect. The northern countries - Holland, Germany, northern France, UK and the Scandinavian countries - take fewer light coloured vehicles than southern France, Italy and Spain, and for good and obvious reasons.

More
difficult to appreciate is the reason for a colour to be popular in one
country and much less so in other apparently similar ones. This has been
the case with green which has been popular in France and Germany but not
elsewhere.
