Nicola Maule
Nicola studied Fine Art at Leeds Polytechnic, graduating in 1984 and
went on to study Surface Pattern at Jacob Kramer College of Art. She
completed her Masters in Art and Design in 1997 at Leeds Metropolitan
University. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally and
has work in many public and private collections. Currently she divides
her time between East Anglia and South West France.
Nicola works between the mediums of both painting and textiles creating
beautiful, highly colourful, textured textile works that are suitable
for both domestic or public spaces. Her method includes creating printed
and painted fabrics that she then pieces and stitches together to produce
larger works.
Colour and composition are the two most important elements in Nicola's
work, often working on a grid formation to emphasise repetition.
Procion, acid dyes and acrylic paints are used on canvas, linen, silk
and paper to create subtleties of colour that seem to be woven into
the fibres of the cloth, but are however purely painted and/or printed.
These are combined with found fabrics and objects to create glowing
painted and stitched textile works for interior and exterior.
