Louisa and Lewis Creed |
Louisa Creed Rag Rugs Louisa was brought up in a family of painters, but she was not herself attracted to the medium. Late in life, she discovered that textiles were "her thing", and her painterly instincts have been given free reign for the past 17 years, using recycled clothing as her material. The cast-off garments are cut into strips and pulled through hessian in rows of loops. Louisa has shown her work all over Britain and in Japan. She takes part in many exhibitions in the York area, where she lives, and gives talks and workshops with her husband. Lewis protested for twelve years, while watching Louisa hooking rugs, that he could not take to the craft and then, suddenly he was "hooked". He has completed eighty rugs, exhibited his work in a number of venues, and helped Louisa with her workshops. His designs are influenced by his work with mosaics and cartoons. He works quickly and neatly, and with a great deal of enthusiasm and humour. He makes what he terms "fun rugs".
