Investigating colour vision

This test should be used in conjunction with the Ishihara colour vision tests, as it is not intended as a screening test, only as a means of identifying people with superior, average and inferior colour discrimination.

The Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test

This test was developed in 1943 by Dean Farnsworth

The original test consisted of 100 coloured discs, the colours forming a complete colour circle, but this has now been reduced to 85 coloured discs. Each disc is about 13 mm in diameter.

Because the colour difference between the adjacent coloured discs is so small people with normal colour vision usually make some mistakes when carrying out the test. This means that the test has added value in being able to identify people with superior colour discrimination.
